Darienite Harold McGraw III, chairman, president and CEO of the McGraw-Hill Companies, will be the next chairman of the United States Council for International Business, which represents America’s top global companies in major international forums. Elected by the council’s board of directors, McGraw will succeed William G. Parrett, retired CEO of Deloitte, who has served as the pro-trade group’s chairman since 2005, effective April 15.

   

Darien woman helps to raise money in Kenya

Recently, nearly 200 individuals living in rural Eastern Kenya came together to raise money in support of a local non-government organization. The East African Center for the Empowerment of Women and Children, whose program director is Darien High School graduate Kate Crowley, has operated a school, clinic and team of community health workers in the village for nearly 10 years. It operates out of Seattle and New York City.

St. Luke’s LifeWorks names new CEO

St. Luke’s LifeWorks recently announced the appointment of Jason Shaplen as chief executive officer. St. Luke’s LifeWorks is a Stamford-based organization that serves lower Fairfield County, including Darien.

Shaplen comes to St. Luke’s LifeWorks from Project Renewal in New York City; one of the nation’s largest private, non-profit agencies serving the homeless. As a senior executive, Shaplen’s duties included oversight and direction of the agency with a particular focus on education, life-skills and workforce-development programs. He served as director of Next Step, the organization’s education and employment arm, and in 2006 founded Imprints, a social enterprise that doubles as a for-profit digital printing business and training program for homeless individuals.

Dr. James M. McClane of Darien, colorectal surgeon, has been appointed chief of colon and rectal surgery at Norwalk Hospital, Dr. Peter Dodds, chairman of the Department of Surgery, has announced.

Cigna Corporation recently announced that physician executive Alan Muney of Darien will join the company as senior vice president, total health and network, to lead the company’s health management and network contracting activities.

In this role, Dr. Muney will lead the company’s integrated team of doctors, dentists, nurses, behavioral health clinicians and other health professionals who deliver health management and wellness programs to Cigna customers. He will also be responsible for Cigna’s relationships with the physicians, hospitals and other health care facilities, behavioral health experts, dentists and dental specialists who participate in Cigna’s networks around the country. Muney will be based in Bloomfield, the headquarters for Cigna’s U.S. health care operations.

   

CEO of Moore Center for Rehab celebrates award, anniversary

Bob Moore, founder and CEO of Moore Center for Rehabilitation, recently received Quinnipiac University’s Distinguished Alumni Award. This award comes on the heels of the Moore Center’s 20th anniversary.
