Top-seeded Lauralton Hall ran into a buzzsaw in the form of Mercy of Middletown in the Class L girls basketball quarterfinals at Berlin High School on March 10.
The ninth-seeded Tigers (18-6), who play out of the Southern Connecticut Conference, scored the game’s first six points and never trailed in upsetting the Crusaders 48-39
Lauralton Hall finishes its season with a 22-3 record, making it to the final game of the South-West Conference Tournament.

The Jonathan Law boys basketball team beat Cheney Tech of Manchester, 59-47, on Thursday night at Prince Tech in Hartford.
No. 11 Law (16-7) will tangle with third-seeded Bloomfield High (20-2) on March 15 at 7 p.m. at Maloney in Meriden.

Hannah Weissauer and Evan Rule from Foran High were among 12 student-athletes from seven high schools named The SportsCenter of Connecticut/Southern Connecticut Conference Scholar Athletes of the Month for September.
Student athletes who are selected must be a varsity letterwinner and have a 3.0/B average while demonstrating leadership qualities.

Powered by 29 points from Kyle Wiggins, the Jonathan Law boys basketball team defeated 22nd-seed Weston High, 60-55, at Richetelli Gymnasium in the first round of the Class M tournament on Tuesday night.
Wiggins poured in 13 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth quarter to help the 11th-seeded Lawmen win their first state tournament game in over 15 years.

At one point during the season, all appeared to be lost as the Milford Indians ice hockey team stood with a 3-10 record courtesy of six one-goal loses.
Somewhere in the midst of the despair, the heart of the Indians began beating and what followed was an amazing journey to the postseason.
It all culminated when the Indians, virtually with their backs to the wall, had four games left on the schedule. Milford needed to go 4-for-4 or the season was over.

The Jonathan Law girls basketball team fell to Plainfield High, 71-59, at Richetelli Gymnasium on Friday night in second-round Class M state tournament action.
Casey Dulin led the fifth-seeded Lawmen with 26 points, but fouled out with 6:29 left in the game.
Sophomore Hailey Griffin scored a game-high 29 points the No. 21 seed Panthers (13-9).

Milford National Lou Gehrig Little League will sponsor Senior Little League baseball this spring.
This league is open to all 13- and 14-year-olds.

The Milford Umpire Association’s annual Early Bird Softball Tournament is scheduled for April 9, 10 and 11, with rain dates of April 16, 17 and 18.
