While the process of selecting a site for a state girls detention center is starting from scratch, state Rep. Christopher L. Caruso of Bridgeport said he plans to closely monitor what happens from here.

A Quinnipiac University professor from Bridgeport is leading five students on a spring break trip to Leon, Nicaragua, where they are sharing their expertise with educators from two rural school districts.
Cheryl Kerison, assistant professor of education, is overseeing the annual trip that gives students and professors the opportunity to participate in a week-long professional development conference for elementary and secondary school teachers in Nicaragua.

Johnny Rizzo has seen the highs and lows of show business during his more than three decades as a professional comedian.
He’s opened for Jay Leno and Dennis Miller, been on stage at top comedy clubs in New York and Los Angeles, and appeared on TV and in films.
He’s also slept under billboards in Hollywood because he had no money and no where else to go. Billboards have generators that keep you warm at night, he said.

The Barnum Museum will come alive for a very dead lady on March 25. That’s when a diminutive 5-foot 4-inch, 30-something with high cheek bones and a penchant for seasoning her veggies with sand will become a living, breathing person through the findings of Quinnipiac University’s Bioanthropology Research Institute.
After her nearly 4,000-year sleep and the application of increasingly sophisticated forensic research techniques, the secrets of Bridgeport’s own mummy, Pa-Id (pronounced “pie-eeeb”), will be unveiled by institute Executive Co-Director Gerald Conlogue at “A Night at the Museum” on Thursday, March 25 at 6 p.m.

City police are investigating an act of vandalism at St. Mary’s by the Sea last weekend that damaged 15 trees at the waterfront park in Black Rock.
Fifteen trees were seriously damaged by a chain saw, according to city officials. The damage was discovered on Sunday, March 14.
